How do you best reach a nation for Christ? Our experience in Fiji has shown that reaching out to the next generation is one of the best strategies for sharing Christ’s love and his plan of salvation for all people. There is a real need for the children of Fiji to understand what it means to have a personal relationship with Christ, for both the Indian as well as the indigenous Fijian children. Many adult believers in Fiji who have committed their lives to Christ, did so as a child. Our vision is to guide the next generation to Jesus and live out Proverbs 22:6, “Start children off on the way they should go, and even when they are old they will not turn from it.”
The ongoing children’s ministry of Island Encounters began in 2012 with neighborhood evangelistic Kid’s Clubs and Bible-focused tutoring sessions at a nearby orphanage. From 2017 onward the ministry has been further developed and led by Tim and Tawnya Green:
“Our passion for kid’s ministry reflects our desire for children to know who Jesus is and how they can begin a relationship with Him. Each week we share Christ with a wide age range of kids (3-14 yrs.), both Fijian and Indo-Fijian. We present Christ and Biblical truths to a home for single moms and orphans, a small squatter settlement, and, once or twice a month, in neighboring primary schools. Our lessons in the primary schools are to help with literacy while using the Bible as the curriculum! Along with this, when short-term teams arrive, they accompany us to children’s events and share in leading worship, games, and activities.”
Through the children’s ministry of IE we are planting seeds of truth and watering those seeds through discipleship in the lives of Fiji’s children, as well as in the lives of the teams/students who come alongside the ministry to help out. Many students leave Fiji changed, with a new calling on their lives to this type of ministry. All praise to God who makes things grow! Please keep the children’s ministry of Island Encounters in your prayers. Help us invest in God’s Kingdom here in Fiji through this much-needed children’s ministry!
